We are currently in the midst of our school's 60th anniversary bash here at Seondeok Girls' School. Delicious. Not even kidding, I've eaten a TON of delicious food in the last 24 hours. The third graders made snacks and sold them for coupons during lunchtime, some of the other students held a bake sale, some others dressed up as anime characters and told peoples' fortunes with tarot cards, and yet others made handmade soaps and candles to sell. I got to read some of my students' poems, see their artwork, and watch them dance and scream and sing. And there's more to come today! Unfortunately I forgot my camera yesterday so I didn't get any good pictures of the epic bonfire that was set up in the schoolyard, nor of the drunk teachers singing Korean songs at the 회식 (teachers' dinner) that happened at the end of the day. It was fun. I ate a lot of beef. Today we are off to visit the grave of our school's founder. In the afternoon is a performance in which Matthew, me and one of my co-teachers will play: 1) an arrangement of the song played by Matthew's laundry machine 2) an arrangement of our school song and 3) an arrangement of "Paradise," a ridiculous K-pop song featured in the recent, hugely popular drama "Boys Over Flowers" or "꽃보다남자." Now what bizarre combination of instruments could these fabulous masterworks have been arranged for? Violin, acoustic guitar, and french horn. Ha.
Last week I went to Hong Kong and Macau! Picture post to come soon.

Is anyone recording the musical performance? I'd love to hear the laundry arrangement in particular. Would one call that a "song cycle"?
