ice!

*note: click on the pictures to see them full. for some reason blogger cuts them off into little squares. poo.

just thought i'd try getting your attention with something adorable....^^

last night might have been the most fun i've had since i got back from break. of course, that's not counting the many many MANY movies i've watched with matthew, the DVD bangs we've explored, etc. but it's the first time i've really hung out with my host family in a while. when i got home from school we went out to dinner with their family friends, ate 감자탕 (kamja tang, or pork and potato stew) and 드뼈찜 (like jjim chicken, but again with pork). i really like the family we usually hang out with, it's another woman who teaches at the school, her husband, and her son who is possibly the most adorable child ever. the only time i've seen them this year so far, though, was the first day i got back, when i was still travel-exhausted and jetlagged. so it was nice to hang out and chat with them at dinner. then after dinner we got in the car, and as usual i had no idea where we were going. we pulled into a little parking lot next to the half-frozen shallow stream that cuts through the city, and i was very confused. my host father said, "ice!" and everyone got out of the car. he then pulled a little sled and 2 sticks out of the trunk and we all went running over to a different part of the stream, which (somehow) was completely frozen over! so for about a half an hour we all ran around playing on the ice with and without the sled. the kids poked holes in the ice with the sticks while my host mom and i pretended to be on "lunning machine" = running machines = treadmills. everyone took a turn on the little sled and dragged one another around in circles until they fell down. it was so much fun, sliding around on the ice, playing soccer with large chunks that came loose. the funniest part might have been with my host father managed to completely fall on his butt - twice- but i bet it wasn't so funny for him.

*the best picture i could get- i only had my phone on me.

Anyway after our icy adventure we returned home and my host mother brought out more food and a board game.

i couldn't really figure out the rules, but it looked like a lot of fun! *note: my host parents are the couple on the left. the one rolling on the floor? that's my host dad (and the school's computer teacher / hwae shik MC)

it involved this little paper board and 4 pink sticks, which they threw to see how many places to move on the board. they tried to explain it to me, but i preferred to just watch and take pictures....

the kids came out and played a little, but they were content spending most of the time like this:

absolutely mesmerized by computer games. in case you don't recognize them, my host siblings are the ones on either side, and sokoon, their friend, is in the middle. it's really adorable to watch the three of them play together, because the older two like to take care of him. he's only 5!
