ohhhh...it hurts go to downstairs.

So for those of you who did not know, I broke a small bone in the ball of my foot last year, from running during the summer (if you're curious...it was one of the sesamoids. look it up). So for the past year I've been unable to go running. Lately though, I've been thinking it might be time to start up again, because the pain in my foot's almost gone and I'm starting to put on weight here in Korea. Too bad everyone's supposed to be stick skinny and somehow dodge the ajummas who always try to stuff food down your throat..."Diet 해요" may soon become my most important phrase at home (literal meaning: I do a diet). Unlike most of these tiny Korean girls I have yet to master the art of juggling pushy ajumma and healthy diet, so I just end up stuffing myself. On top of that, I just really like the food here, so I overeat a lot. Solution: try to enjoy slightly smaller portions while starting to do some more 운동= exercise.

Yesterday I went for a short run! Luckily I live right next to the 형산강(Hyeongsang River) which has a really nice running path along the side. It's pretty flat, so I thought it would be a nice place to start. So I went, got super sweaty, came back and watched my host mother cook gooksoo, or cold noodles with egg and cucumber (yum!), ate that, and then went to meet Colby at the Gyeongju bus terminal. We decided to go against the original plan of going to Bulguksa because it was really really hot. Instead we walked to Anapji pond, which is a gorgeous spot really close to my school, and then took the bus out to Bomun lake, which is the top tourist attraction in Gyeongju. Lots of resort hotels all around this huge lake with a fountain in the middle, swan boats floating across it, and Gyeongju World/Expo at the far end. We ate jjim dalk (spicy chicken dish with veggies and glass noodles- LOVE IT), got way too full, and then headed back home (Colby to Busan, me to apartment). All in all, a nice day off. Hopefully I can keep up this whole exercising thing, I think it will help with my peace of mind as well as my middle...

Sometimes I still wonder at the fact that I'm actually in Korea...About 3 and a half months ago I thought I was gonna be living at home and working for this year, but here I am halfway across the world, teaching Korean schoolgirls about New York City and movie genres....Who knew?

My camera's battery is dead (permanently), so no pictures for now. A new one is on order, so be patient! Pictures will come soon....
