안녕 하십니가! 저는 애밀리 입니다. 학생 이에요. 한국어를 배워요.
Hurray, I can type in Korean! Mom, tell me if any of that's totally wrong.
Anyway, here are some random pictures: first an ADORABLE store we stepped into after having a delicious dinner of kimpap the other night- i bought a fan that looks like an apple. Those are some of my fellow ETAs being goofy.
The next is the precarious little walkway that I had to get across in a construction site to get to the cafeteria in the morning. Something like that would never pass at Middlebury!
Last of all, here are some pictures from the hanji workshop I did last night! Hanji is Korean rice paper that's used to make crafts. I'm doing a weekly workshop making all different little things: fans, dishes, and this week, a mirror with a charm. the green one all the way to the left in the picture is mine. I'm so proud of it! We basically cover the paper in glue (it's already dyed), very carefully sort of wrap it around the edges of the mirror, and rip off the ends. You can't leave any extra paper on, or glue, because it will be either a big sticky mess or it will end up looking feathery instead of smooth. we did the same thing on the other side of the mirror. The interesting thing about the hanji paper is that it's very stretchy- almost more like fabric rather than paper. Apparently kings used to use it to send messages containing sensitive information, because it was unlikely to rip unless it got wet. The teacher had made the gorgeous paper flowers that we stuck on the back with glue. Then we finished up by covering it in 5 more layers of glue, drying it each time, and 2 layers of waxy glaze. The end result? Very pretty!
More to come later, after my cooking lesson tonight. I'm off to watch Korean dramas with French subtitles. Yay!
